What is Fairmined Gold?
Fairmined Gold is an assurance label for gold from responsibly managed artisanal and small-scale mines that meet world-leading social and environmental standards. Certified mining organisations receive fair prices and additional funds to reinvest in safer practices, environmental protection and the long-term wellbeing of their communities.
How is Fairmined Gold ethically sourced?
Fairmined as an organisation provides traceability throughout the supply chain and encourages continuous improvement in mining methods, helping small-scale miners participate in the global gold market on better terms.
Through our sister company EC One we have invested in responsible mining through Fairmined credits. These credits represent the gold that was mined under the Fairmined certification but was sold outside its supply chains. One Fairmined credit equals one gram of responsibly mined gold. Investing in credits strengthens small mining organisations and allows them to improve sustainability practices.
Our particular investment went to the implementation of the Mining Plan Technical Permit (PTO) for La Gabriela Mine, ensuring compliance with Columbian environmental regulations. It helps to deliver a technical report that meets all requirements from the National Mining Agency (ANM), with clear documentation and evidence. And updates the environmental management plan to ensure full alignment with Colombian environmental regulations.
Mina Le Gabriela was certified in 2021 and has shown strong progress in responsible mining. This mine has 11 employees (as of 2025), 9 men and 2 women. This mine helps its employees support their more than 60 combined family members. The mine has faced limited gold production so the employees and local community combine it with agriculture and beekeeping to diversify.
