'Own metal casting', 'sentimental gold casting', heirloom casting', whatever you call this service, it is one of the most popular services we offer, it has become incredibly sought after by consumers in recent years. We compiled some of the most frequently asked questions about our sentimental metal casting service so that when your bespoke customer asks if they can use their own gold in a commission or remodel, you can confidently answer their questions.
“What metals do you accept for sentimental casting?”
Antique gold jewellery like rings, bangles, pendants, cufflinks. 9ct, 14ct and 18ct yellow gold and white gold.
“What metals are not accepted?”
Gold plated, gold-filled or hollow jewellery. Silver, platinum, tungsten, titanium or mixed metal combinations like mixed yellow and white gold. Heavily soldered items like chains.
“How much does own metal casting cost and what’s included?”
The flat rate for this service is £195. This fee includes: XRF testing, casting charges, and button charge. The only additional charge would be for any metal needed to make up the required weight of the piece.
“What’s the turn-around time for own gold casting?”
This service can be cast multiple times a week so it has a quick turn-around, usually 2-3 days.
“Can I provide stone-set jewellery?”
Stone-set jewellery may be used. Stones will be professionally removed before casting but additional charges may apply depending on the amount of stones present. Often, these stones are reused in the new bespoke design. Please get in touch to discus our end-to-end production options. We can finish and set your bespoke order as well as casting it.
“Can I provide pieces of different carats for casting?”
Yes, and where mixed carats are supplied, the alloy can be adjusted to the next standard carat where appropriate. For example, if a mix of 9ct and 18ct gold results in a 13ct alloy, additional gold can be added to bring the metal to hallmarked 14ct standard. Additional alloy charges may apply.
"How can you guarantee the quality of the heirloom casting?"
All sentimental casting jobs are processed in dedicated casting batches. The sentimental gold will be used alongside newly added compatible alloy to ensure the strength, finish and reliability of the final piece. Due to the nature of customer supplied jewellery, we cannot guarantee casting performance, colour consistency or structural behaviour of sentimental metals. Porosity, contamination and alloy reactions can occasionally occur despite all reasonable precautions. Additional fresh alloy may also be required during recasting if necessary.
